Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking loperamide HCL.
Driving or operating machinery should be avoided, as loperamide may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.
Do NOT use Loperamide Hydrochloride if:
- You are allergic to loperamide;
- You have stools that are bloody, black, or tarry;
- You have diarrhea that is caused by taking an antibiotic.
There is little evidence with regards to the use of Loperamide Hydrochloride during pregnancy, and so consult your doctor or health care professional before taking it. Loperamide can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not take Loperamide Hydrochloride while you are breastfeeding.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. The usual dose for adults is 2mg after each loose stool, not to exceed 16mg in any 24-hour period. The usual dose for children depends on their weight; follow your doctor’s prescription.
Tell your doctor about all other medicines you use, especially saquinavir (invirase). Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with loperamide HCL.
