Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking cefalexin.
If your condition does not improve or becomes worse, then call your doctor.
Driving or operating machinery is okay as it does not cause to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.
Do NOT use cefalexin if you have:
- Any signs of an allergic reaction;
- Nephritis (inflamed kidneys);
- Blood disorders;
- Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of eyes);
- Hepatitis (Swelling and inflammation of the liver);
- Severe diarrhea with blood or mucus;
- Severe skin rash with flushing, blisters, fever, or ulcers in the nose or mouth.
There is little evidence with regards to the use of cefalexin during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and so consult your doctor or health care professional before taking cefalexin.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. The usual dose for adults is: 250 to 500mg every 8 hours.
Cefalexin is not recommended for children under 5 years old. The usual dose for children over 5 years is: 25mg to 50mg for each kilogram of children weight. And for children who take cefalexin for ear infections, 75mg to 100mg for each kilogram of their weight.
Please inform your doctor if you are taking any other medicines including other antibiotics especially amphotericin, capreomycin, vancomycin, aminoglycoside, furosemide, bumetanide, probenecid for gout or medication for leukemia. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with cefalexin.
