Tetracycline Hydrochloride Capsules are used to treat a variety of infections, including infections of the skin, eyes, genitals, respiratory tract, urinary tract, lymph nodes, and other systems. It is a first-line therapy for certain zoonotic diseases, such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and Psittacosis.

This medication may also be used for infections caused by contaminated water and food or for infections spread as a part of a bioterror attack.

Tetracycline Hydrochloride is classified as a tetracycline antibiotic. It has a broad spectrum of activity against microorganisms. The active ingredient works by inhibiting the first stage of protein synthesis within the bacteria.

What is Tetracycline Hydrochloride used for?

It's used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, including:

  • severe acne
  • pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections
  • certain infections of skin and eyes
  • certain infections of the lymphatic, intestinal, genital, and urinary system
  • sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea, chlamydia, or syphilis
  • plague and tularemia
  • food poisoning and anthrax in people with penicillin intolerance

It's also used as a combination therapy with other medications to treat peptic ulcers caused by H. pylori.

How should Tetracycline Hydrochloride Capsules be used?

This medication has been manufactured to be taken orally. Tetracycline Hydrochloride Capsules should be taken on an empty stomach.

What dose should be taken?

The usual dose for adults is 500mg per day.

For children over 8 years of age, the usual dose is 25-50mg/kg per day.

The exact dosage is based on medical condition, response to the treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.

Side Effects
