Ribavirin Capsules are a drug used to treat some types of viral infections. It is indicated for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis C, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and certain viral hemorrhagic fevers. For the treatment of Hepatitis C, it is typically combined with other medications like simeprevir or sofosbuvir.

This medication is effective against Lassa fever, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, and Hantavirus infection, but it does not show action against for Ebola or Marburg infection.

Ribavirin is a nucleoside analog that belongs to the class of medicines called antivirals. It works by interfering with viral replication in certain DNA and RNA viruses.

Ribavirin is also known by the name tribavirin.

This medication has been manufactured to be taken orally. It is important to drink a lot of fluids during treatment.

What dose should be taken?

The usual dose for adults is 1000-1200mg, divided and taken twice a day.

For children over 3 years old, the usual dose is 15mg/kg, divided and given in two doses.

The dosage is based on medical condition, response to the treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
