Indications and Usage
Hydrocortisone injection is a steroid medication (corticosteroid) used in the treatment of a variety of conditions that cause inflammation like rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, serious skin conditions, allergies, and asthma.
It may also be used with other drugs as a replacement therapy if the adrenal gland function is compromised or the patient is diagnosed with Addison’s disease.
During the inflammation response period, by decreasing the release of these chemicals in a particular area, inflammation is reduced. This medication is indicated to relieve inflammation (swelling, heat, redness, and pain). It can usually be used to treat joint inflammation, inflamed tendon sheaths, and inflamed burse.
Precautions
Do not take hydrocortisone injections if:
- You are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients;
- You have a history of bleeding problems, blood clots, bone loss (osteoporosis), diabetes, certain eye diseases, heart problems, kidney diseases, liver diseases, or thyroid problems;
- You may develop stomach bleeding;
- You are undergoing immunizations, vaccinations, or skin tests.
Driving or using machinery or conducting any activity that requires alertness is not recommended while using hydrocortisone injections.
There is little evidence on the use of hydrocortisone injections during pregnancy or breast feeding. It is advised to consult with a healthcare provider before administration of the. This medication passes into breast milk. Although there have been no reports of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Administration and Dosage

Interactions
