Diatrizoate Meglumine + Diatrizoate Sodium injection is a radiopaque contrast medium used as a diagnostic aid in radiographic examinations (X-ray) of the gastrointestinal tract, angiography, and urography. This drug is also used as contrast enhancement for computed tomography (body imaging).

This injection is indicated for examinations where a more viscous compound that is not water-soluble is not feasible or potentially dangerous.

Diatrizoate Meglumine is the meglumine salt form of diatrizoate and Diatrizoate Sodium is the sodium salt of benzoic acid. Both these compounds block x-rays, so it allows body structures with iodine to be distinguished on x-ray film.

What is Diatrizoate Meglumine + Diatrizoate Sodium used for?

It's used as a diagnostic aid for radiography, angiography, and urography. It is also used to enhance contrast for computed tomography (CT) scans.

What dose should be given?

For aortography, the usual dose is 15-40ml IV or intra-arterially. The dose can be repeated if needed. The maximum dosage is 160ml.

For CT brain imaging, the usual dose is 1.3ml/kg IV. The maximum dosage is 125ml.

For excretory urography, the usual dose is 20ml given IV. The dosage can be increased to 40ml if necessary.

For digital subtraction angiography, the usual dose is 20-60ml given IV.
