It is an effective prophylaxis and treatment of worm infections in many different kinds of animals such as cows, goats, and sheep. Albendazole has a rapid mechanism of action (1 to 3 hours after ingestion), while oxyclozanide has a slow mechanism of action, taking as long as 24 hours after oral ingestion.

Albendazole belongs to the drug class called benzimidazole anthelmintics. It exhibits broad-spectrum action against many varieties of worms, such as roundworms, tapeworms, and flukes of domestic animals and humans.
