What is an (AFP) Alpha-Fetoprotein Test Kit?

Product Category:
Indicated Use:

An (AFP) Alpha-Fetoprotein Test Kit is a medical diagnostic tool used to determine AFP levels in the blood, serum, or plasma. AFP is a protein produced during fetal development, and levels typically decrease after birth. Elevated AFP levels in the bloodstream can be an indicator of certain conditions and illnesses.

An AFP tumor marker test is primarily used to detect liver cancer. Elevated levels of AFP may be caused by other conditions, such as pregnancy, hepatitis, other types of cancer, and some types of birth defects, such as neural tube defects. Alpha-fetoprotein screening is also conducted to check the progress of treatment plans.

The alpha-fetoprotein test kit is a lateral flow immunoassay that uses specific antibodies to detect AFP in the sample. A visual signal is produced upon the binding of the antibodies to the protein if it is present.

AdvaCare Pharma is a leading (AFP) Alpha-Fetoprotein Test Kit manufacturer and distributor. These kits have been produced in ISO and CE-certified facilities in India, China, and the USA. Every facility is regularly inspected to ensure they are compliant with healthcare standards for quality and safety.

Product Specifications

Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma

For collecting Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma specimens, use the standard venipuncture (2 drops) or fingerstick (50 μL) technique; use centrifugation for plasma or serum samples. The specimen is then transferred to the designated area of the cassette using a capillary tube or dropper. Following this, a drop of the corresponding buffer dilution is immediately added to then proceed with the test.

How should (AFP) Alpha-Fetoprotein Test Kit be used?

1. Collect a blood, serum, or plasma sample from the patient. Use standard venipuncture or fingerstick technique for blood specimens or centrifugation for plasma or serum samples. 2. Use a capillary tube or dropper to administer the sample to the cassette or test strip. 3. Apply a small amount of the buffer solution to the test cassette or test strip. 4. Wait the designated amount of time, as referenced in the packaging instructions. 5. Read the results.

Any AFP antigen (ag) test that has been damaged or past its expiry should be discarded.

How are (AFP) Alpha-Fetoprotein Test Kit stored?

AFP test kits are recommended to be stored at room temperature (between 15°C and 30°C). Exposing the test kits to direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, or moisture can affect the accuracy and reliability of results. The tests should be kept in the original packaging until use.

How are used blood, serum, or plasma testing kits disposed of?

The proper disposal of this rapid diagnostic test kit is necessary to prevent the spread of possible infection. After use, the kit should be placed in a tightly sealed biohazard bag. The outside of the bag should be cleaned and disinfected before placing it in a medical waste container.

How does an (AFP) Alpha-Fetoprotein Test Kit work?

This AFP test is based on a lateral flow immunoassay. The strip or cassette contains specialized antibiotics which will bind to any alpha-fetoprotein within the human sample. This product is intended for in vitro diagnostic settings.

How long does it take to get the results of the (AFP) Alpha-Fetoprotein Test Kit?

The AFP panel takes about 10 minutes to display a positive, negative, or invalid result.

Which patients should be tested with an (AFP) Alpha-Fetoprotein Test Kit?

An alpha-fetoprotein assay may be ordered by a healthcare provider to screen for liver or testicular cancer, to monitor cancer treatment progress, to diagnose specific types of birth defects, or to assess liver function in patients with liver disease.

When should a strip or a cassette be used?

Test strips and test cassettes are convenient, simple-to-use options for healthcare providers or laboratory technicians. The choice may depend on the facility or clinic's preference. Some providers prefer cassettes because of their easy-to-read results and visual display, while others prefer the strips for their lower cost and simplicity.

*Regulatory compliance may vary according to production standard, import requirements and/or manufacturing origin.
