AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Co-trimoxazole.
Co-trimoxazole is an antimicrobic drug; it is especially effective in the treatment and prevention of Pneumocystis jiroveci (P. carinii) pneumonitis, Treatment, and prophylaxis of toxoplasmosis and nocardiosis.
Furthermore, it is indicated in case of urinary infection, otitis media, bronchitis and intestinal infection where the single antibiotic result less effective than the combination of two (Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole) inside Co-trimoxazole.
It contains two different antibacterial substances that enhanced the chance of killing the bacteria while broadening the spectrum of his activity.
Co-trimoxazole targets only some species of bacteria, so it can only treat a certain type of infection and it will be ineffective with a viral infection. The misuse or abuse of antimicrobic drugs can decrease their effectiveness and develop an antibiotic resistance.
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Co-trimoxazole. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to nausea, vomit, diarrhea, Monilial overgrowth.
Seek medical attention immediately if you develop an allergic reaction.

Do NOT use Co-trimoxazole if:
- You are allergic to sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim or any of the other ingredients inside the powder for suspension or derivate compounds from the same class (sulphonamides, thiazide…);
- You have liver problems;
- You have sever renal insufficiency.
Co-trimoxazole is not suitable for children under 12 years old.
The use of Co-trimoxazole if you are pregnant or breastfeeding should be avoided because it passes into breast milk and there is a risk of developing fetal abnormalities.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
The usual dose for adults and children over 12 years old is:
- 2 Powder for Suspensions every 12 hours.
This dosage approximates to 6mg trimethoprim and 30mg sulfamethoxazole per kilogram body weight per 24 hours. The therapy should continue at least for 5 days, and not more than 7 days, after that if the symptoms are not passed refer to your doctor.
