General Information:
AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Albendazole oral suspension.

Albendazole oral suspension is a broad spectrum anthelmintic or antiparasitic medication. Albendazole is a member of the benzimidazole compounds used as a drug indicated for the treatment of a variety of tapeworm infections (such as neurocysticercosis and hydatid disease). Albendazole prevents newly hatched insect larvae (worms) from growing or multiplying in your body.

Take this medication by mouth with meals as directed by your doctor, usually 1 to 2 times daily. Keep out of the reach of children and store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C.

Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of albendazole oral suspension. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use.

Common side effects include, but may not be limited to nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, or temporary hair loss.

Seek medical attention if the following develop:

  • severe headache that doesn’t go away,
  • vision changes,
  • yellowing eyes/skin,
  • severe stomach/abdominal pain,
  • dark urine,
  • unusual tiredness,
  • easy bruising/bleeding,
  • signs of infection (such as sore throat that doesn’t go away, fever, chills),
  • signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine),
  • confusion,
  • very stiff neck.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Driving or operating machinery is okay, as it does not cause any ailment. Adverse effects on the ability to drive or operate machinery have not been observed.

Do NOT use albendazole tablet if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.

It is not known whether albendazole or its metabolites are secreted in human breast milk. Thus it should not be used during lactation unless the potential benefits are considered to outweigh the potential risks associated with treatment.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.

Administration and Dosage

Usual dose for adults is:

  • Less than 60kg: 15mg/kg/day orally in divided doses twice a day with meals Maximum dose: 800mg/day;
  • 60kg or more: 400mg orally twice a day with meals;
  • Duration of therapy: 28-day cycle followed by a 14-day drug-free interval, for a total of 3 cycles.

Usual does for children is:

  • Children less than 20kg: 200mg orally as a single dose; repeat in 2 weeks;
  • Children at least 20kg: 400mg orally as a single dose; repeat in 2 weeks;
Interactions

Albendazole may interact with the following medications: cimetidine, dexamethasone, praziquantel, and theophylline.
