General Information:
Quinine Sulfate tablets, also known as quinine sulphate, is an anti-malarial manufactured to treat falciparum malaria in both adults and children over 12 years, but can also be used to treat nocturnal leg cramps in adults and the elderly.
The active ingredient in these tablets is quinine sulfate. This can also act as an: analgesic, which reduces pain; an anti-inflammatory, which reduces inflammation or swelling; an anti-pyretic, which reduces fever; and an antiparasitic, which treat parasitic diseases.
The use of quinine sulfate can cause the development of cinchonism, with symptoms including abdominal pain, blurred vision, headache, impaired hearing, sweaty skin, tinnitus, vertigo, and vomiting. It is therefore essential that you consult your doctor or health care professional before use.
Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of quinine sulfate. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use. Common side effects include, but may not be limited to diarrhea, dizziness, headache, muscle weakness, nausea, rashes, visual disturbances, vomiting. Other effects can include low blood pressure and low glucose levels. Seek immediate medical attention if the following develop asthma, fever, flushing, frequent nosebleeds or other unusual bleeding, itchy skin rash, light sensitivity, and swelling of the lips, face, throat, or tongue.

Do NOT use quinine sulfate tablets if:
- You are allergic or hypersensitive to quinine.
- You suffer from hemoglobinuria, myasthenia gravis, optic neuritis, or tinnitus.
- You suffer from atrial fibrillation or other serious heart diseases.
- You drink a lot of beverages such as tonic water which contain quinine.
- You have intolerance to some sugars.
Quinine sulfate should not be used during pregnancy or breast feeding. Consult your doctor or health care professional before taking quinine sulfate tablets.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. For Malaria: Usual dose for adults is: 600mg every eight hours for 7 days. Usual does for children aged 12 years or over is: 600mg every eight hours for 7 days. For Nocturnal Cramps: Usual dose for adults: 2000mg at bedtime. The guideline dose is can be adjusted depending on the size of the patient, and the severity of the disease, so you should consult your doctor before use
There are some known interactions with other drugs, so consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with quinine sulfate tablets.
