An Iron Dextran Injection may also be prescribed to adult animals suffering from anemia.

Iron Dextran Injection is a sterile solution containing ferric hydroxide in complex with a low-molecular-weight dextran fraction, which is equivalent to 100mg elemental iron per ml. Phenol 0.5% has been added as a preservative.
