Always consult a veterinary physician or animal care specialist before using dextriferron.
If the condition does not improve, call a veterinary physician or animal care specialist.
Refer to an animal care specialist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise, and complete the full treatment, as stopping early can result in a recurrence or worsening of the problem. Usual dosage is as follows:
Piglets are given 1ml iron dextran for injection by deep intra-muscular injection on the third day after birth. This will ensure an adequate supply of iron for growth until a body weight of approximately 6-7kg is reached, and until iron intake from supplementary or starter feeds begins. In herds, which are risk of anemia before the birth of piglets, it is recommended to ensure that the sows have an adequate intake of vitamin E.
Grown-up swine 5-10ml per dose.
Calves: 4-12ml during the 1st week, if necessary to be repeated at 4 to 6 weeks of age.
Consult with an animal care specialist about any other medications that are being taken by the animal, and their medical history, before their treatment with dextriferron liquid injection.
