Benefits

Lion’s Mane benefits the nervous system

Lion’s Mane mushroom has neuroprotective properties. It stimulates the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), a protein that supports the growth, maintenance, and repair of neurons. Lion’s Mane helps improve the function of nerve cells and may slow the progression of neurodegenerative conditions. Regular use may support overall nervous system function, especially in the process of aging.

Lion’s Mane benefits in cases of depression and anxiety

Lion’s Mane may help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety by supporting brain health at a cellular level. It stimulates the creation of new brain cells, which improves mood and emotional response. Animal studies show that it can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression in mice. It can also regenerate brain cells and improve the function of the hippocampus, which processes memories and emotional responses.

Lion’s Mane benefits the immune system

This supplement contains bioactive compounds such as beta-glucans that modulate the immune system. These compounds help activate immune cells like macrophages and natural killer (NK) cells, which strengthens the body’s defenses against infections and inflammation. It is beneficial during cold and flu seasons or periods of high stress.

Lion’s Mane benefits nerve regeneration

The compounds of Lion’s Mane have shown the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. Because of this, it is believed that Lion’s Mane has a potential complementary approach for a wide range of neurological conditions, such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and various types of nerve damage.

Lion’s Mane benefits in cases of diabetes

Lion's Mane might lower blood sugar levels and raise insulin levels. This needs to be studied more, however, it has a potential benefit. Diabetic people should consult with a healthcare specialist before including this supplement in their daily consumption.

Ingredients

Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is the main ingredient in this supplement, which has the main function of supporting brain and nerve health. This medicinal mushroom contains two key compounds, hericenones and erinacines, which stimulate the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), a protein essential for the growth, repair, and survival of neurons. NGF activity is correlated to improved memory, focus, and cognitive resilience. This makes Lion’s Mane a natural nootropic.

In addition to cognitive support, Lion’s Mane has potential in promoting nerve regeneration, which may benefit individuals recovering from nerve-related injuries or dealing with age-related cognitive decline. It also contains beta-glucans, which have immune-modulating properties, and help the body with the natural defenses. Lion’s Mane is recognized as a powerful ingredient for maintaining long-term neurological health.

  • cognitive support
  • neuroprotection
  • mood regulation
  • reduces inflammation
  • boosts the immune system

How are Lion’s Mane Capsules used?

This lion’s mane supplement is to be swallowed with water, preferably with a meal.

What dose of Lion’s Mane should be taken?

The recommended dosage of lion’s mane is 1 capsule daily, or as directed by a healthcare practitioner. Taking in the morning with food is ideal for enhanced brain support throughout the day.

Do not take more than the stated daily dose. A laxative effect may occur in case of overdose. If you notice any side effects, contact a doctor immediately.

Is there a recommended duration for using this Lion’s Mane supplement?

Lion’s Mane is often used as a long-term supplement to support brain health and cognitive function. Some users report improvements in focus and mental clarity within a few weeks, but consistent use over 8 to 12 weeks is typically recommended for noticeable benefits. As with any supplement, we advise you to consult a healthcare provider for personalized guidance.

What kind of supplement is the Lion’s Mane?

Lion’s Mane is a top-trending mushroom supplement. These mushrooms are large, white, and shaggy, and resemble a lion’s mane during the growth process. They have bioactive substances that offer many benefits to the human body (brain, heart, and gut).

This natural nootropic supplement has a growing popularity because of the numerous benefits for brain health. In countries like the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, and parts of Europe, the interest in this mushroom supplement for brain health is rising.

Why is the Lion’s Mane capsule known as a nootropic drug?

Lion’s Mane is mostly used for cognitive improvements, as a nootropic. Nootropics are known as “smart drugs” that have beneficial medicinal substances that improve thinking, memory, and learning. It can be used both when these functions are stable, but also when they are impaired. It can also improve focus and nerve regeneration. It is effective in both aging individuals and those with a certain brain disease.

What are the main nootropic compounds of Lion’s Mane?

The two main classes of compounds are hericenones and erinacines. Hericenones are found in the fruiting body, and erinacines are found in the mycelium. These two compounds can cross the blood-brain barrier and stimulate the nerve growth factor (NGF) production. This NGF supports the development of new neurons (neurogenesis), which repair damaged neurons.

Is this mushroom supplement for brain health suitable for people with mushroom allergies?

In general, Lion’s Mane is a safe supplement even for those people with mushroom allergies. This is a functional and medicinal mushroom, but it still belongs to the fungal kingdom and has similar components to other mushrooms. People with known mushroom allergies still might have a small risk of developing an allergic reaction. The most common allergic reactions might include skin rashes, itching, digestive upset, respiratory symptoms, and anaphylaxis. To avoid this allergic reaction, we advise you to consult with a healthcare professional to determine whether consuming nootropics like Lion’s Mane can cause an allergic reaction.

What’s the difference between a 4:1 and a 15:1 extract of Lion’s Mane?

The difference between a 4:1 and a 15:1 Lion’s Mane extract is in the concentration levels. A 4:1 extract means that 4 grams of raw mushroom were used to produce 1 gram of extract, while a 15:1 extract uses 15 grams of mushroom to produce the same amount. In theory, the 15:1 extract is more concentrated and offers a higher concentration of bioactive compounds like hericenones and erinacines per dose. A higher ratio does not automatically mean better results. The efficacy depends on the extraction process, the part of the mushroom used (fruiting body vs. mycelium), and whether the product is standardized for active compounds.

What are the other properties of a Lion’s Mane supplement?

This mushroom in its natural form has a flavor that many describe as similar to seafood. Because of this flavor, many people cannot consume it, and taking a supplement like Lion’s Mane might be a better choice. Besides its function as a natural nootropic supplement, it is also rich in vitamins like thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin, as well as minerals like manganese, zinc, and potassium.

Is Lion’s Mane effective on its own, or should it be combined with other supplements?

It depends on the condition that needs to be treated. The most common condition for which it is being used is fighting dementia and other brain diseases. Studies show that taking Lion’s Mane supplements in adults with mild cognitive impairment for 4 months can lead to temporary improvements on cognitive tests. However, individuals with severe nerve impairments should get help from a professional to determine whether taking other supplements could improve their condition.

Can Lion’s Mane replace prescription medication for neurological conditions?

No, Lion’s Mane should not replace a prescription medication for neurological conditions. It depends on the stage of a certain disease, but a combination of drugs or supplements is the most recommended approach.

For what conditions can Lion’s Mane be helpful?

This mushroom supplement for brain health can be beneficial for conditions like stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and nerve injuries.

How should Lion’s Mane capsules be stored?

This supplement should be stored in a dry, cool place. It should also be kept out of the reach of children and pets. Safeguard the package from direct sunlight to avoid contamination and maintain the supplement’s quality.

What is the evidence for Lion’s Mane’s impact on reproductive health?

Many studies show that Lion’s Mane is a good nootropic supplement that can improve overall brain function. The normal brain function declines with age, and adding a daily supplement can improve cognition and reduce the chances of brain-related conditions.

The Acute and Chronic Effects of Lion’s Mane Mushroom Supplementation on Cognitive Function, Stress and Mood in Young Adults: A Double-Blind, Parallel Groups, Pilot Study

Hericium erinaceus (Lion’s Mane) contains bioactive compounds that may improve cognitive function and mood, but human research so far has mostly focused on long-term use in individuals with cognitive impairments. This study aimed to assess both the short-term (acute) and 28-day (chronic) effects of Hericium erinaceus on cognitive performance and mood in healthy young adults.

This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-groups format that examined the impact of a 1.8 g daily dose of Hericium erinaceus in 41 adults aged between 18 and 45. Cognitive performance and mood were measured 60 minutes after a single dose and after 28 days of supplementation.

Participants showed faster reaction times on the Stroop task 60 minutes after taking a single dose. After 28 days, there was a trend toward reduced perceived stress.

These findings suggest that Hericium erinaceus may acutely improve cognitive speed and may also help lower stress levels over time in healthy young adults.

Improving effects of the mushroom Yamabushitake (Hericium erinaceus) on mild cognitive impairment: a double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial

Another randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study examined whether Yamabushitake mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) supplementation could improve cognitive function in Japanese adults aged 50-80 with mild cognitive impairment. Researchers used the Revised Hasegawa Dementia Scale (HDS-R) to examine the cognitive performance.

After a 2-week run-in period, 30 participants were randomly divided into equal groups of 15. The treatment group consumed 3 grams daily of Yamabushitake (delivered as four 250 mg tablets taken three times per day, containing 96% dried mushroom powder) for 16 weeks, while the control group received matching placebo tablets. Participants were then monitored for 4 additional weeks after discontinuing treatment.

Results showed that the treated group had more improvements compared to the placebo at 8, 12, and 16 weeks of treatment, with scores continuing to improve throughout the supplementation period. However, cognitive benefits decreased within 4 weeks of stopping the consumption of the mushroom extract.
