        Vitamin C Tablets, also called ascorbic acid, are a naturally occurring vitamin that you need for a number of bodily functions. Vitamic C benefits are extensive, it is important for bone, muscle, cartilage and vascular health. It is also an important component of regulating iron metabolism, which is necessary for red blood cells to carry oxygen to all of the cells and tissues of your body.

        Side Effects:
        As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Vitamin C tablets. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use. One Vitamin C benefit is they are generally regarded as safe in amounts normally obtained from foods. Vitamin C supplements are also generally regarded as safe in most individuals in recommended amounts.

        Common side effects include, but may not be limited to: abdominal cramps or pain, chest pain, dental erosion, dizziness, diarrhea, faintness, fatigue, flushing, gut blockage, headache, heartburn, increased risk of lung cancer, increased risk of Parkinson’s disease, inflamed esophagus, injection site discomfort, nausea, red blood cell complications, skin tingling or irritation, slowing of endurance training, thickening of blood vessels close to the heart, urinary complications, and vomiting.

        Seek medical attention if the following develop: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); black, tarry stools; blood or streaks of blood in the stool; fever; severe or persistent nausea, stomach pain, or vomiting; vomit that looks like blood or coffee grounds.

        Do NOT use vitamin C tablet if:

        • You are sensitive or allergic to any ingredients present in Vitamin C products.

        Use of vitamin C tablets during pregnancy or breastfeeding is fine. Vitamin C intake from food is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Use cautiously in greater than the recommended dose in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Use vitamin C cautiously in those at risk of high blood pressure during pregnancy.

        Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
        Usual dose for adults is:

        • For men more than 18 years old is 90 milligrams of vitamin C daily;
        • For women more than 18 years old, it is 75 milligrams daily;
        • For pregnant women more than 18 years old, it is 85 milligrams daily;
        • And for breastfeeding women more than 18 years old, it is 120 milligrams daily.

        Usual does for children is:

        • For children 1-3 years old, it is 15 milligrams;
        • For children 4-8 years old, it is 25 milligrams;
        • For children 9-13 years old, it is 45 milligrams;
        • And for adolescents 14-18 years old, it is 75 milligrams for boys and 65 milligrams for girls.

        Vitamin C in high dose may interfere with the blood-thinning effects of aspirin, anticoagulants such as warfarin (Coumadin) or heparin, and anti-platelet drugs such as clopidogrel (Plavix). It may affect the level of blood sugar. Be cautious when using medications that may also affect blood sugar.
        Vitamin C tablets in high dose may interfere with the blood-thinning effects of anticoagulant and antiplatelet herbs and supplements.

        Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with vitamin C.
