Verapamil HCl Tablets are a cardiovascular drug used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) and chest pain (angina). Uses
What is Verapamil used for?
It is used to treat hypertension, angina, atrial fibrillation/flutter, supraventricular arrhythmia, chronic atrial fibrillation, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, pediatric supraventricular tachycardia, and tardive dyskinesia. It is also used to prevent certain types of headaches, such as migraines or autonomic headaches.
How are Verapamil Tablets used?
This medication is intended to be taken orally.
What dose should be taken?
The usual dose is 80-120mg, taken twice per day. The maximum dosage is 480mg per day.
For migraine headache prophylaxis, the usual dose is 80mg, taken twice per day.
Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for more specific guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Verapamil HCl Tablets.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:
- nausea or constipation

Precautions
Do NOT use Verapamil HCl Tablets if:

- You have very low blood pressure or your heart has issues pumping blood.
This medication may not be suitable for people with certain conditions, including:
- congestive heart failure
- heart rhythm disorders
- liver or kidney disease
- current treatment with an intravenous beta-blocker like atenolol
- myasthenia gravis or another nerve-muscle disorder
This medicine should only be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if the benefits outweigh the risks. Consult a doctor or healthcare professional before treatment.
Many drugs are known to interact with Verapamil, including disopyramide. Avoid grapefruit products while being treated with this medicine.
