Indications and Usage
Valsartan is used to lower high blood pressure, treat heart failure and reduce the risk of hospitalization from heart failure.
It also improves survival after a heart attack.
Administration and Dosage
Use of valsartan tablets during pregnancy or breastfeeding is harmful. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional before taking valsartan.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed the advisable dosage.
The usual dose for adults is 80–160mg taken once per day. The maximum dosage range for a day is 80–320mg.
The usual dose for children aged 6–16 years is 40mg taken once per day depending on age and body weight.
Maximum dosage for children is 40–160mg taken within a day.
It is not for children younger than 6 years.
Possible interactions with valsartan tablets include blood pressure drugs, potassium supplements, certain diuretics, mood stabilizers, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, and certain herbs.
Valsartan tablets should not be taken with alcohol. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with valsartan tablets.
Taking more medicines may cause poisoning and severe side effects. Please call the emergency department if you suspect valsartan tablets overdose.
Precautions and Adverse Reactions
Do NOT take valsartan if:
- You are pregnant, planning to get pregnant or breastfeeding;
- You are at any risk of low blood pressure;
- You have high blood potassium levels;
- You are going to drive or undertake other dangerous tasks;
- You have kidney damage;
- You are younger than 6 years.
No adverse reactions have been reported.
