General Information:
AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Prednisone Tablets.
Prednisone Tablets are used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood disorders, breathing problems, severe allergies, skin diseases, cancer, eye problems, and immune system disorders. Prednisone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It decreases your immune system’s response to various diseases to reduce symptoms such as swelling and allergic-type reactions.
Prednisone is very important in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Non-Hodgkin lymphomas, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, multiple myeloma and other hormone-sensitive tumors, in combination with other anticancer drugs.
Store at room temperature between 15-30 degrees C. Keep the Prednisone away from light and moisture.
Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Prednisone. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use. Common side effects include, but may not be limited to confusion, headache, excitement, restless, nausea, thinning skin or acne, trouble sleeping and weight gain.
Seek medical attention if the following develop:
- Severe allergic reactions, like: skin rash, itching, swelling of your lips, face or tongue;
- Changes in emotion or mood;
- High blood sugar;
- Passing urine more often;
- Feeling sleepy or confused;
- Swelling of your ankles or feet.

Indications and Usage
Prednisone is indicated for endocrine disorders (thyroiditis, congenital adrenal hyperplasia); rheumatic disorders (psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, acute gouty arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, epicondylitis); collagen diseases (polymyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus); dermatologic diseases (pemphigus, severe psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis); allergic states (bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis); ophthalmic diseases (allergic conjunctivitis, keratitis, herpes zoster);respiratory diseases, hematologic disorders, neoplastic diseases, edematous states, gastrointestinal diseases, and acute exacerbations of the multiple sclerosis.
Contraindications
This drug is contraindicated with patients who have hypersensitivity reaction towards any Prednisone.
Precautions
Do NOT use Prednisone Tablet if you:
- Are allergic to penicillin Prednisone;
- Are going to receive a live vaccine;
- Have any illness that causes diarrhea;
- Have heart disease, high blood pressure, low levels of potassium in your blood;
- Have tuberculosis, osteoporosis, diabetes, history of malaria, stomach ulcers, ulcerative colitis;
- You a muscle disorder such as myasthenia gravis; or depression or mental illness.
Use of Prednisone during pregnancy or breastfeeding is fine because there is little evidence regarding the use of Prednisone during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Always consult your doctor or health care professional before taking Prednisone. Small amounts of Prednisone enter breast milk but it is unlikely that the amount of Prednisone would cause any harmful effects in the nursing infant or the mother’s milk production.
Driving or operating machinery safe until you develop drowsiness or sleepiness. If insufficient sleep occurs, the likelihood of impaired alertness may be increased.
Administration and Dosage
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Usual dose for adults is: depending on the specific disease and person taking the drug, the initial dosage may vary from 5mg to 60mg per day taken once a day.
Dosage for children is usually based on weight and severity of the condition which is determined by a healthcare professional.
Interactions
There are 34 major medications known that can interact with Prednisone. Some of them are: amphotericin B, cyclosporine, digoxin digitalis, blood thinners such as warfarin, Coumadin, diuretics, insulin or diabetes medications, NSAID’s etc. Sometimes, bupropion can cause seizures if it is used with Prednisone. Therefore, haloperidol can cause heart rhythm problem if it is used with Prednisone. Mifepristone may prevent Prednisone from working properly if it is taken together.
Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with prednisone.
Overdose
If someone overdoses might have symptoms of thinning skin, easy bruising, changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your face, neck, back, and waist), increased acne or facial hair, menstrual problems, impotence, or loss of interest in sex, breathlessness or passing out. This has to be reported to the medical health professional.
