Praziquantel Tablets are a drug used in the treatment of parasitic infections, such as hydatid disease, cysticercosis, schistosomiasis (both urinary and intestinal), clonorchiasis, and opisthorchiasis. It is only effective against certain types of parasites, such as Schistosoma, trematodes, and cestodes.

Praziquantel belongs to the class of medicines called anthelmintics. The active ingredient work by paralyzing parasites, which causes them to release the blood vessels they are holding onto so the body can remove them naturally and kill them.

What is Praziquantel used for?

How are Praziquantel Tables used?

This medication has been manufactured to be taken orally. Praziquantel Tables should be taken with food and water.

What dose should be taken?

For schistosomiasis, the usual dose is 20mg/kg, given two times for one day. Doses should be taken at least 4-6 hours apart.

For liver flukes, the usual dose is 25mg/kgivenive twice a day for 1-2 days. Doses should be taken at least 4-6 hours apart.

For cysticercosis, the usual dose is 50mg/kg, given twice a day for 1-2 days. Doses should be taken at least 4-6 hours apart.

For tapeworms, the usual dose is 5-25mg/kg for one day.

The dosage is based on medical condition, response to the treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.

As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Praziquantel Tablets.
