Common side effects include, but may not be limited to mild stinging or tingling, red, watery eyes, increased sensitivity to light, and blurred vision. Seek medical attention if the following develop: eye pain, swelling, severe burning, tunnel vision, flashes of light, white patches on eyes, cloudiness, bleeding of eyes, sudden vision loss.

There is little evidence with regards to the use of ganciclovir eye drops during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so consult your doctor or health care professional before using this medication.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. The usual dose for adults is five times a day until eyes feel better, followed by 3 times a day for the next 7 days.
