What is Anastrozole?

Anastrozole Tablets are an antineoplastic drug used to treat certain types of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It helps slow the growth of tumors that need estrogen to grow by lowering the level of estrogen. It is typically used after cancer has progressed after treatment with tamoxifen.
Anastrozole is classified as a nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor. It works by decreasing the amount of estrogen made by the body.

What is Anastrozole used for?

How are Anastrozole Tablets used?
This medication has been manufactured to be taken orally.
What dose should be taken?
The usual dose is 1mg, taken once per day.
To induce ovulation, the usual dose is 1-5mg, taken once a day for 5 days. Treatment should start on the 3rd day of the menstrual cycle.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Anastrozole Tablets.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:
- numbness, tingling or a tickling feeling
- hot flashes
- weakness
- joint pain
Seek medical attention if the following develop:
- shortness of breath or rapid weight gain
- symptoms of a bone fracture
- numbness, prickling, pain, or weakness in the hands or wrists

Precautions
Do NOT use Anastrozole Tablets if:
- You are allergic or hypersensitive to any of the ingredients.
- You are a man or a child.
- You are currently taking tamoxifen.
This medication may not be suitable for people with certain conditions, including:
- heart problems
- coronary artery disease or high cholesterol
- osteoporosis
Though it is unlikely that a postmenopausal woman may become pregnant, it should be noted that this medication will harm a fetus. For women who are not past menopausal, use effective birth control measures for the duration of treatment and at least 3 weeks afterwards. Do not breastfeed while taking Anastrozole. Consult a doctor or healthcare professional before treatment.
Many drugs are known to interact with Anastrozole, including other estrogen medications such as hormone replacement therapy or estrogen cream.
