General Information:
Vincristine sulfate is a mitotic inhibitor and is used in cancer chemotherapy indicated for the treatment of acute lymphocytic leukemia. Vincristine sulfate has also been shown to be useful in combination with other antineoplastic agents in Hodgkin’s disease, non-Hodgkin’s malignant lymphomas, rhabdomyosarcoma, neuroblastoma, breast cancer, small cell cancer of the lung, uterine cervix cancer, colorectal cancer, and Wilms’ tumor.
vincristine sulfate is the salt of an alkaloid obtained from a common flowering herb, the periwinkle plant. Originally known as leurocristine, it has also been referred to as LCR and VCR.
Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of vincristine sulfate. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use. Common side effects include, but may not be limited to constipation, headache, joint pain, pain in testicles, pain in fingers, weakness. Seek medical attention if the following develop: blood in urine, fever or a cough.

Do NOT use vincristine sulfate if:
- You are allergic to any compounds within the medicine.
- You are suffering from Charcot-Marie Tooth syndrome.
Use of vincristine sulfate during pregnancy or breast feeding can be harmful for the unborn baby. Consult your doctor or health care professional before having vincristine sulfate.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. Usual dose for adults is 2 mg weekly. Usual does for children is 2 mg weekly, during 3 to 8 weeks.
Interactions with vincristine sulfate can decrease digoxin and phenytoin plasma concentration. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with vincristine sulfate powder for injection.
