What is Floxuridine?

Therapeutic Class:

Active Ingredients: Floxuridine

Floxuridine for Injection is an antineoplastic drug used to treat cancer. It is effective in the palliative management of hepatic metastases of colorectal and gastric cancers that are considered incurable by surgery or other means. This drug is administered via continuous regional intra-arterial infusion.

Floxuridine is a pyrimidine analogue and belongs to the class of drugs known as antimetabolites. This drug works by interfering with the metabolism and growth of cells and thus preventing the production of DNA in cancer cells. When cancer cells interact with the active ingredient, it slows or stops the growth of cancer cells in the body.
