        General Information:
        Carboplatin Powder for Injection is a chemotherapy drug, which is used to treat various forms of cancer, mainly ovarian cancer, but also: bladder cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, central nervous system tumors, endometrial cancer, esophageal cancer, germ cells tumors, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, and osteogenic cancer. Finally, it can also be used during preparation for bone marrow or stem cell transplants. It is formulated with platinum and can be used as monotherapy, or in combination with other medication, to help slow down or stop the growth of cancer cells.

        The active ingredient is Carboplatin, and as a powder for injection it comes as a white powder available in single-dose containing the prescribed mg and should be administered intravenously, by your health care professional.

        It is actually less potent than cisplatin, however, due to its other features, it is often the preferred option for treatment.

        There are some specific care tips which one should follow during treatment with Carboplatin, so a consultation with a doctor is important before one begins treatment. It can also increase your risk of infection, so again consult your doctor beforehand for information on how to prevent this, and avoid activities that could cause bruising or injury.

        Side Effects:
        As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Carboplatin. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use. Common side effects include, but may not be limited to changes in taste, constipation, fatigue, hair loss, nausea, weakness. Seek medical attention if the following develop: chills, cough, dark urine, diarrhea, fever, severe allergic reaction, sore throat, vomiting. If decreased sensation, numbness, and tingling in fingers and toes develops and gets worse, then contact your doctor at once.

        Additional Information

        Driving or operating machinery is okay, as it should not cause dizziness or drowsiness.

        Do NOT use carboplatin powder for injection if:

        • You are allergic to cisplatin, arboplatin, or other platinum-containing formulations.
        • You have severe bone marrow depression.
        • You have severe bleeding problems.
        • You are pregnant or are breast feeding.
        • You are trying to conceive (applicable to both men and women).

        Use of carboplatin during pregnancy or breast feeding is not recommended as there can be harm to the fetus. Consult your doctor or health care professional before using carboplatin.

        Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. The dose can be adjusted depending on a patient’s height, weight, body response to the drug, among other factors, so always refer to your health care professional’s advice.
