What is Tylosin Tartrate + Doxycycline HCl + Bromhexine HCl?

Therapeutic Class:
Target Species:

Active Ingredients: Tylosin Tartrate, Doxycycline HCl, Bromhexine HCl

Tylosin Tartrate + Doxycycline HCl + Bromhexine HCl Tablets are a combination drug used to treat bacterial infections of the intestinal or respiratory system. It may be used for animals like pigeons or poultry that develop infections caused by bacteria sensitive to these antibiotics, such as Mycoplasma or Chlamydia.

These tablets contain three active ingredients: Tylosin Tartrate, Doxycycline HCl, and Bromhexine HCl. It is the combination of two antimicrobial agents and a mucolytic compound. The spectrum of activity includes Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Corynebacterium, Campylobacter, Bacillus, Moraxella, Clostridium, Haemophilus, Bordetella, Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Listeria, and Spirochaetes. This combination also shows activity against Mycoplasma, Rickettsia, and Chlamydia.

Tylosin Tartrate is classified as a macrolide antibiotic. It has been derived from the fermentation product of Streptomyces fradiae. Tylosin Tartrate shows a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive organisms and a limited range of gram-negative organisms.

After oral administration, the antibiotic is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-2 hours, although food can delay absorption. Absorption in the ruminoreticulum is unreliable, resulting in oral bioavailability of 35% for tylosin. The antibiotic is widely distributed in tissues, achieving concentrations similar to or higher than those in plasma, accumulating in cells and transported by white blood cells to sites of inflammation. It concentrates in organs such as the spleen, liver, kidneys, and lungs, but does not penetrate the eyes or cerebrospinal fluid. It can access pleural and ascitic fluids to address inflammatory conditions. More than 75% of the drug binds to plasma proteins. Tylosin is eliminated in its active form, primarily through bile (more than 60%) or via enterohepatic circulation, with slow and variable urinary clearance. The concentration of the antibiotic in milk mirrors that in plasma.

Doxycycline belongs to the family of medicines called tetracycline antibiotics. It works by inhibiting the first stage of protein synthesis in the bacterial cell wall. Doxycycline is effective against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

After oral administration, Doxycycline is absorbed in the upper small intestine and reaches the bloodstream within 2-4 hours. Factors like sodium bicarbonate, aluminum hydroxide, calcium, iron, and dairy products can affect its absorption. The antibiotic quickly distributes to various tissues and fluids throughout the body, achieving high concentrations in organs such as the kidneys, liver, spleen, bone, bile, and lungs. Metabolism of Doxycycline in domestic animals is minimal, and the drug is excreted unchanged. Elimination occurs through both glomerular filtration and the gastrointestinal tract, with factors such as age, route of administration, renal function, urine pH, and glomerular filtration rate influencing excretion. Tetracyclines undergo minimal metabolism in animals, and the drug is primarily excreted unchanged in urine.

Bromhexine HCl is mucolytic. It works to break down mucus, which increases bronchial secretion. This action increases Tylosin Tartrate and Doxycycline's ability to penetrate bronchial tubes, which leads to a faster and more effective concentration of these antimicrobials. This drug is metabolized by the liver and excreted by the kidneys. It increases the production of serous mucus in the respiratory tract by making the phlegm less viscous and promoting its expectoration.

Uses

What is Tylosin Tartrate + Doxycycline HCl + Bromhexine HCl Tablets used for?

It is used to treat internal and respiratory infections caused by susceptible bacteria like Mycoplasma or Chlamydia.

What animals can be treated with Tylosin Tartrate + Doxycycline HCl + Bromhexine HCl Tablets?

It is recommended for poultry and ornamental birds, including chickens, geese, pigeons, parrots, and canaries.

How are Tylosin Tartrate + Doxycycline HCl + Bromhexine HCl Tablets used?

This medicine has been manufactured as a tablet, which is intended to be given orally to an animal.

How does Tylosin help in the treatment process of animals?

This antibiotic disrupts protein synthesis by binding reversibly to ribosomes preventing translocation and inhibiting peptide chain elongation. It has bacteriostatic properties but can be bactericidal at higher concentrations, particularly effective against rapidly dividing bacteria and mycoplasmas. It demonstrates optimal efficacy in higher pH ranges (7.8-8) and can neutralize acidic environments found in abscesses. As a time-dependent antimicrobial agent, its effectiveness hinges on the duration of exposure.

In addition to its antimicrobial effects, this antibiotic has immunomodulatory properties and is used to treat respiratory infections, particularly effective against Mycoplasma infections. Its efficacy is concentration-dependent against susceptible bacteria.

How does Doxycycline help in the treatment process of animals?

This is a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the tetracycline family which is derived from the fermented product of Streptomyces rimosus. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, effectively targeting both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including pathogens such as Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Diplococcus pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli. It also shows activity against Chlamydia, Rickettsia, and spirochetes.

Can this antibiotic help in the treatment process of viral diseases?

No, antibiotics only help in treating bacterial diseases. Treatment of viral diseases can only be successful with antiviral drugs, supplements, and vitamins.

Does this antibiotic help in the treatment process of respiratory diseases?

Yes, this antibiotic helps in the treatment process of respiratory diseases only if the pathogen is a bacteria. Tylosin Tartrate and Doxycycline can reduce the pathogen, while Bromhexine can act as a mucolytic, and this compound can improve the breathing process.

What should be done if a dose is missed?

If a dose is missed it should be proceeded to the next scheduled dose. Patients should not receive double doses.

Can this drug interact with other drugs?

Yes, this drug might interact with some drugs and supplements. It can interact with penicillins, cephalosporins, quinolones, and cycloserine.

What should be done if any side effects arise?

Side effects are very rare and this drug is generally safe, however, it might lead to some mild side effects especially if the animal is hypersensitive to some of the ingredients. If any side effects arise, they should be monitored carefully and it should be reported to a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Can this drug be used for other animals besides poultry?

This drug combination is safe for other animals besides poultry, however, this specific drug is only recommended for poultry.

How should Tylosin Tartrate + Doxycycline HCl + Bromhexine HCl Tablets be stored?

This medication should be stored in a dark, dry location under 30°C in a tightly sealed container.
