General Information:
AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Iron Dextran + Vitamin B12 Injection.
Iron Dextran + Vitamin B12 Injection is intended for the prevention or treatment of iron deficiency anemia in newborn piglets and calves, and for pregnant and lactating animals. Within the first few days after a pig is born, it is common for iron deficiency anemia to occur. Iron is essential to produce adequate levels of hemoglobin in animals. This deficiency lowers the resistance of the pig and scours, pneumonia or other infections may develop and lead to the death of the animal.
Vitamin B12 acts as co-enzymes in nucleic acid synthesis. Deficiency of Vitamin B12 can lead to the development of megaloblastic anemia and demyelination and other neurological damage.
It is important to note that AdvaCare’s iron dextran + vitamin B12 injection is for veterinary purposes only, and altho’ there are similar medications available for human use, you should only use medications prescribed by a veterinary doctor or animal care specialist for an animal.
Side Effects:
As with all veterinary medicine, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Iron Dextran + Vitamin B12 Injection. Always consult a veterinary physician or animal care specialist for medical advice before use.
Muscle tissue is colored temporarily by this preparation. Leaking of injection fluid can cause a persistent discoloration of the skin.

Refer to an animal care specialist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise, and complete the full treatment, as stopping early can result in a recurrence or a worsening of the problem. Usual dosage is as follows:
For intramuscular or subcutaneous administration:
Livestock: 2-4mg/1kg of body weight.
Calves: 2-4ml subcutaneous, in the first week after birth.
Piglets: 1ml intramuscular, 3 days after birth.
Consult with an animal care specialist about any other medications that are being taken by the animal, and their medical history, before their treatment with Iron Dextran + Vitamin B12 Injection.
