What is Penicillin G Procaine?

Therapeutic Class:

Active Ingredients: Penicillin G Procaine

Penicillin G Procaine for Injection is a local anesthetic and antibiotic combination drug used to treat moderately severe infections in both adults and children. It is indicated for the treatment of syphilis and diphtheria, and it is also used to treat cellulitis and erysipelas.

This medication is also used as an adjunct in the treatment of anthrax.

Procaine Benzyl Penicillin is also known by the name of Procaine G Penicillin. It is the combination of the antibiotic benzyl penicillin and the local anesthetic agent procaine. This drug is a long-acting antibacterial therapy option that is sometimes administered when oral treatment is not possible.

Benzyl Penicillin displays bactericidal action against penicillin-susceptible microorganisms, such as staphylococci, streptococci, pneumococci, and Neisseria meningitidis. This antibiotic is not effective against penicillinase-producing bacteria.

Penicillin G Procaine for Injection is manufactured for reconstitution. It is intended to be administered intramuscularly.
