Oxacillin Sodium for Injection is an antibiotic used to treat various types of bacterial infections caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococci. It may be used to initiate therapy when a staphylococcal infection is suspected. It is indicated for the treatment of infections like pneumonia and meningitis.

Oxacillin is also used to treat infections associated with the urinary tract, skin, bone, joint, blood, and heart valve.

What is Oxacillin Sodium used for?

What dose should be taken?

For mild or moderate infections, the usual dose for adults is 250-500mg IM/IV, given every 4-6 hours.

For infants and children with a body weight less than 40kg, the usual dose is 50mg/kg IM/IV, divided and given every 6 hours.

For severe infections, the usual dose for adults is 1g IM/IV, given every 4-6 hours

For infants and children with a body weight less than 40kg, the usual dose is 100mg/kg IM/IV, divided and given every 6 hours.

For neonates, the usual dose is 25mg/kg per day.

The exact dosage is based on medical condition, response to the treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
