Fortified Penicillin G Procaine for Injection is an antibiotic used to treat moderately severe bacterial infections caused by penicillin-susceptible microorganisms. It is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections like pharyngitis or bronchopneumonia and for urogenital infections like gonorrhea.
Procaine Penicillin belongs to the family of medicines called penicillin antibiotics. It works by inhibiting cell wall formation. This medication is used for micrograms that are susceptible to low serum levels.

What is Fortified Penicillin G Procaine used for?
It's used to treat moderately severe bacterial infections such as:
- syphilis
- respiratory tract infections when oral administration is difficult
- cellulitis
- erysipelas
- anthrax (as adjunct)
- strep throat (with Penicillin V and Erythromycin)
How is Fortified Penicillin G Procaine for Injection used?
This medication has been manufactured as a powder, which is packaged in a vial. As an injectable form, it is to be given directly into a muscle (IM). Reconstituted solutions should be used immediately.
What dose should be given?
The usual dose for adults is 0.6 to 2.4mega per day. For post-exposure anthrax prophylaxis, doses are given every 12 hours.
For children, the usual dose is 0.05mega/kg, divided and given 1-2 times per day.
The exact dosage is based on the severity of the infections, age, gender and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Fortified Penicillin G Procaine for Injection.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:
- pain at the site of injection
- white patches in mouth or throat
- vomiting
