Indications and Usage
Sumatriptan tablets are indicated in the treatment of migraine headaches. It can also be used in combination with other medications.
Administration and Dosage
Use of sumatriptan tablets during pregnancy or breastfeeding does not appear to be harmful.
Consult your doctor or health care professional before taking sumatriptan tablets.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed the advisable dosage. The usual dose for adults is 25mg to 100mg taken twice per day. Do not take more than 200mg per day.
Sumatriptan tablets are not meant for children below the age of 18 years.
Possible interactions with sumatriptan tablets include monoamine oxidase inhibitors, ergot-containing drugs, serotonin-1 receptor agonist and other herbs.
Sumatriptan tablets should not be taken with alcohol. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with sumatriptan tablets.
Sumatriptan tablet is contraindicated if:
- You have a cerebral hemorrhage or any cardiac defect;
- You have a serious circulation problem;
- You have an unspecified persistent headache.
Taking more sumatriptan tablets may cause poisoning and serious side effects. Please call the emergency department if you suspect sumatriptan tablets overdose.
Adverse Reactions and Precautions
Do NOT take sumatriptan if:
- You have serious heart problems;
- You have arrhythmias;
- You have symptoms of cardiac defect;
- You have had a stroke;
- You are allergic to its active agents.
No adverse reactions have been reported.
