General Information:
AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Sulfamethoxazole tablets (Sulfamethoxazole Trimethoprim).
Sulfamethoxazole Tablets are a sulfonamide bacteriostatic antibiotic. Sulfamethoxazole is indicated for the treatment of enteritis, bronchitis, ear infections (otitis media), and urinary tract infections. Store the medicine at room temperature in a closed container and keep away from heat, moisture, direct light, and freezing. Keep out of the reach of children.
Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use. Common side effects include, but may not be limited to dizziness, weakness, appetite loss, mild diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.
Seek medical attention if the following develop:
- Severe allergic reactions like skin rash, itching, difficulties with breathing, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, throat or tongue;
- Bloody or black, tarry stools;
- Changes in the amount and color of urine produced;
- Joint or muscle pain;
- Severe stomach or back pain;
- Increased sweating;
- Vaginal irritation or discharge.

Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim. If your condition does not improve or becomes worse, then call your doctor.
Driving or operating machinery is okay only if you are sure about how you might react to it, because sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim may cause weakness, dizziness, and headache.
Do NOT use sulfamethoxazole if:
- You are allergic to any ingredient in sulfamethoxazole;
- You have a history of low blood platelet levels caused by trimethoprim or sulfa medicine;
- You have liver damage or severe kidney problem;
- You have anemia caused by low levels of folate in the blood;
- The patient is a child younger than 2 months old;
- You are taking dofetilide or methenamine.
Use of sulfamethoxazole during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be avoided unless the doctor recommends it. Breastfeeding should be avoided if the infant is premature, or ill, or if the infant has hyperbilirubinemia or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency. Consult your doctor or health care professional before taking sulfamethoxazole.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
The usual dose for adults is 160mg-800mg orally every 12 hours for 10 to 14 days.
The usual dose for children is: for children 2 months of age and older and weighing up to 40kg: 40mg per kilogram of body weight given in two divided doses every 12 hours for 10 days.
