What is Ranitidine?
Active Ingredients: Ranitidine HCl
*Ranitidine has been withdrawn from many markets as of April 2020 due to potential contamination with N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a substance classified as a probable human carcinogen. Regulatory agencies, including the FDA and EMA, have advised removing Ranitidine from the market.
For safer alternatives, consider other medications such as Omeprazole or Famotidine.
Ranitidine HCl Tablets are a drug used to prevent and treat ulcers. This drug is also indicated for the treatment of conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. It is also used to control the symptoms of heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach.
Ranitidine HCl is sometimes used in combination with other antihistamines, like fexofenadine, for the treatment of allergic reactions, like hives.
Ranitidine HCl is in a class of medications called H2 blockers. The active ingredient works by blocking histamine from the H2 receptors. This decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
