Do NOT use pefloxacin mesylate injection if:
- You are allergic to pefloxacin mesylate or other containing ingredients.
There is little evidence with regards to the use of pefloxacin mesylate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so consult your doctor or health care professional before administering pefloxacin mesylate.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Your doctor will prescribe your dose and schedule. For an optimal therapeutic effect, it is important to take the drug at regular intervals in order to maintain a constant drug level. Do not exceed what they advise. The usual dose for adults is 400mg twice a day. Pefloxacin should not be used with children under 12 years old.
One serious but rare adverse effect reported from the use of pefloxacin mesylate is tendonitis and tendon rupture. Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight because pefloxacin mesylate increases sensitivity to sunlight.
Tell your doctor if you have a brain, spinal cord disease, epilepsy, or seizures. Pefloxacin mesylate can also have interactions with antacids, iron supplements, didanosine, or sucralfate. Such conditions and medications may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring.
