Nystatin Tablets are an antifungal drug used for the treatment of non-esophageal mucus membrane gastrointestinal candidiasis. It is also often used as prophylaxis in patients who are at risk for fungal infections, such as AIDS patients with a low CD4+ count and patients receiving chemotherapy.

Nystatin is classified as a polyene antifungal. The active ingredient displays fungicidal and fungistatic activity against many strains of yeast and yeast-like fungi, such as Candida. The active ingredient works by inhibiting cell wall synthesis.

What is Nystatin used for?

It's used to treat fungal and yeast infections, particularly intestinal candidiasis. Nystatin is also used as a prophylaxis in people with a high risk of developing a fungal infection.

How are Nystatin Tablets used?

This medication has been manufactured to be taken orally. Nystatin Tablets should be taken with a glass of water.

What dose should be taken?

The usual dose is 500,000-1,000,000 I.U., taken 3 times a day.

The dosage is based on medical condition, response to the treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.

As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Nystatin Tablets.
