General Information:
AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Montelukast Sodium Tablets.

Montelukast Sodium is a potent leukotriene receptor antagonist. It blocks the effects of leukotrienes, a substance produced by the body in response to specific triggers or allergens. This triggers cause narrowing and swelling of the airways of the lungs. Montelukast sodium tablets with its action decrease inflammation and nasal congestion. It also helps prevent reactions to triggers by keeping the
airways to your lungs open. Montelukast typically starts its actions within a day and it improves symptoms of asthma, seasonal and year-round allergies. Montelukast sodium tablets also prevent breathing problems during or after exercise due to their modus operandi. Elimination of Montelukast is via the renal pathway.

Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceutical medicines, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of montelukast sodium tablets. Always consult a physician for medical advice before use. Common side effects may include fever, upper respiratory infection, cough, sore throat, stomach pain, flu, runny nose, sinus infection and bed-wetting in children. More severe side effects may include: behavior and mood changes, increase in white blood cells, systemic vasculitis increased bleeding, stevens-johnson syndrome and uncontrolled muscle movements. Indications and Usage

Montelukast sodium is indicated in the prevention and treatment of asthma. It is used to treat seasonal and year-round allergies. Montelukast sodium tablets also prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) which results when airways in the lungs narrow during or after exercise.

Precautions

Do NOT take montelukast sodium if:

  • You have a sudden asthma attack;
  • You have suicidal thoughts or behaviors;
  • You have immune system problems;
  • You are allergic to its active ingredients;
  • You are allergic to aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
  • You are below 1 year old.
Administration and Dosage

Use of montelukast sodium tablets during pregnancy or breastfeeding does not appear to be harmful.

Consult your doctor or healthcare professional before taking montelukast sodium. Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed the advisable dosage. The usual dose for adults is 10mg taken once daily in the evening. The usual dose for children aged 6 – 14 years is 5mg taken once daily in the evening. The usual dose for children aged 2 – 5years is 4mg chewable tablet taken once daily in the evening depending on age and body weight. Montelukast sodium tablets are not for children younger than 1year.

Interactions

Possible interactions with montelukast sodium tablets include aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents, certain vitamin supplements and herbs. Montelukast sodium tablets should not be taken with alcohol. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with montelukast sodium tablets.

Overdose

Taking more medicines may cause poisoning and severe side effects. Please call the emergency department if you suspect a montelukast sodium tablets overdose.
