It is indicated in the treatment of candidiasis and tinea, including athlete's foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), and ringworm (tinea corporis). This medication should only be applied to the skin.
Miconazole belongs to the class of antifungals called imidazoles. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol. Ergosterol is an essential component of the fungal cell wall.
Miconazole Nitrate is also available for distribution as a gel or spray. The oral gel formulation is intended to treat fungal infections in the mouth, throat, and gullet. It is safe for adults and children over 4 months old.
