Methylprednisolone Tablets are a steroid drug used for many types of inflammatory, endocrine, and autoimmune diseases that are responsive to corticosteroids. It is indicated for conditions like asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, gout, lupus, multiple sclerosis, and allergic reactions.
Methylprednisolone is classified as a corticosteroid. It works by preventing inflammation and lowering the body's natural defense. Steroids can suppress the immune system by reducing the activity and production of lymphocytes and eosinophils.

What is Methylprednisolone used for?
It's used to treat inflammatory or allergic conditions such as:

How are Methylprednisolone Tablets used?
This medication has been manufactured to be taken orally. Methylprednisolone should be taken with food.
What dose should be given?
The usual dose for adults is 4-8mg, divided and given once or twice daily.
For the hospital treatment of acute asthma, the usual dose is 40-60mg, divided and taken once or twice per day.
The usual dose for children is 0.5-1.7mg/kg, divided and given every 6-12 hours. For the hospital treatment of acute asthma, the usual dose is 1-2mg/kg, divided and taken once or twice per day.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Methylprednisolone Tablets.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:
Serious side effects may include:
- signs of an allergic reaction
- signs of an infection
- shortness of breath
- unusual swelling
- changes in mood or behavior
- signs of internal bleeding
- seizures
- signs of low potassium such as leg cramps

Precautions
Do NOT use Methylprednisolone Tablets if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients.
- You have recently had a vaccination or will be having one soon.
- You have a viral infection such as measles, chickenpox or shingles, or any other infection.
- You have a fungal infection.
Do not have a live viral vaccine while undergoing treatment with this drug.
Avoid sick people or those with infections like chicken pox or measles.
Due to possible drug interactions, consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking before your treatment.
This medication may not be suitable for people with certain conditions, including:
- thyroid disorders
- ocular herpes infection
- stomach ulcer
- ulcerative colitis or diverticulitis
- mental illness like depression or psychosis
- liver disease, particularly cirrhosis
- hypertension
- osteoarthritis
- muscle disorders like myasthenia gravis
- multiple sclerosis
- diabetes
There is not enough information to determine the safety of this medicine when used by pregnant women or nursing mothers.
