Mebendazole tablets are used to treat intestinal worm infections. This includes pinworm, roundworm, and hookworm. It can also treat ascariasis, guinea worm disease, hydatid disease, and giardia. It is well tolerated.
Mebendazole is a medication that is used alone to treat mild to moderate parasite infestations. It kills the parasites slowly. They work by killing the worms and the eggs and eliminating them from the body through feces.
Side Effects:

Common side effects include, but may not be limited to stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, or drowsiness. Precautions
Do NOT use mebendazole tablet if you:
- Are allergic to any ingredient in mebendazole tablets;
- Had stomach or liver problem;
- Are taking or planning to take vitamins or any other nutritional supplements.
Only use mebendazole tablets during pregnancy when clearly needed. Mebendazole passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor or health care professional before taking mebendazole tablets.
Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how mebendazole tablets affect you.
Administration and Dosage
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Usual dose for adults is: 1 tablet to be taken orally (100mg) once a day for pinworms. Therefore, 1 tablet to be taken orally (100mg) morning and evening for three consecutive days for whipworm, common roundworm and hookworm.
Interactions
Possible interactions include metronidazole. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with mebendazole tablets.
Overdose
If someone overdoses might have symptoms of diarrhea, stomach pain, discomfort or swelling, nausea vomiting, breathlessness or passing out. This has to be reported to the medical health professional and seek a medical help urgently.
Adverse Reactions
Some of the reported adverse reactions are abdominal pain, rash, urticaria, angioedema, convulsions, neutropenia and agranulocytosis. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with mebendazole tablets.
