General Information:
AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Clopidogrel tablets.
Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet drug; it belongs to the class of agents known as platelet inhibitors.
Platelets are blood cells that aid blood clotting.
Clopidogrel helps prevent platelets from sticking together; this action prevents them from forming blood clots.
Clopidogrel is activated in the liver; about 50% is excreted via the urine while the remaining 46% is excreted in the feces. The elimination of this drug takes place five days after dosing.
Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceutical medicines, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of clopidogrel tablets.
Always consult a physician for medical advice before use.
Common side effects may include bleeding, itching skin, and fever.
More severe side effects may include blood-clotting problems, serious-life-threatening bleeding, coma, stroke, vision loss, seizures and confusion due to thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).

Indications and Usage
Clopidogrel is used to prevent blood clots when there is chest pain, stroke, a heart attack and peripheral arterial disease (poor circulation in your legs).
Clopidogrel can also be combined with other drugs when instructed by your doctor.
Administration and Dosage
Use of clopidogrel tablets during pregnancy or breastfeeding does not appear to be harmful.
Consult with your doctor or health care professional before taking clopidogrel.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage.
Do not exceed the advisable dosage. The usual dose for adults is 300mg; taken one time, then 75mg, taken once per day as a maintenance dose.
This drug is not for children below 18 years old.
Interactions
Possible interactions with clopidogrel tablets include diabetes drugs, proton pump inhibitors, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), blood thinners, opioids, antidepressants and salicylates (aspirin).
Clopidogrel tablets should not be taken with alcohol. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with clopidogrel tablets.
Overdose
Taking more clopidogrel may cause poisoning and serious side effects. Please call the emergency department if you suspect clopidogrel tablets overdose.
Precautions
Do NOT take clopidogrel if
- You have a severe bleeding problem;
- You are going to have any surgical procedure;
- You have serious liver damage;
- You have any blood-related disorders.
