Indications and Usage
Take this medication orally with or without food as directed by your doctor. Usually take each dosage after 12 hours.
The dosage and length of treatment is based on the signs and symptoms of the patient and also to the response to treatment. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
Take this medication at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking other products that may bind to it, decreasing its effectiveness.
Do not take ciprofloxacin if:
- You are allergic to quinolone antibiotics or if you have any other allergies;
- You have medical history of diabetes, heart problems, joint/tendon problems, kidney disease, liver disease, depression and myasthenia gravis;
- You have low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood.
Driving or operating machinery should be avoided, as it does may impair your thinking or reactions.
There is little evidence with regards to the use of ciprofloxacin tablet during pregnancy or breastfeeding. So consult your doctor or health care professional first.
Administration and Dosage
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed the advisable dosage. Usual dose for adults is: 500mg orally (depending on the severity of the infection) every 12 hours. Recommended duration of the therapy is 14 days.
Some products that may interact with this drug include: “blood thinners” (such as acenocoumarol, warfarin), strontium.
Avoid drinking large amounts of beverages containing caffeine (coffee, tea, colas), eating large amounts of chocolate, or taking over-the-counter products that contain caffeine. This drug may increase and/or prolong the effects of caffeine.
If someone is overdosed might have symptoms of breathlessness or passing out. These symptoms have to be reported to the medical health professional and seek a medical help urgently.
No adverse reactions have been reported.
