        General Information:
        AdvaCare is a GMP manufacture of Cefpodoxime tablets.

        Cefpodoxime works by interfering with the ability of bacteria to form cell walls.

        The cell wall of bacteria is vital for its survival and metabolism. Cefpodoxime also blocks unwanted substances from entering the cells but with the action of this drug, the bonds that hold the wall together are broken and perforated.

        This allows holes to appear, substances now flow in and out of the cell and this kills the bacteria.

        This drug is a broad-spectrum antibiotic; it kills a wide variety of bacteria and also manages a variety of commonly-occurring bacterial infections. Cefpodoxime is excreted in feces and urine.

        Side Effects:
        As with all pharmaceutical medicines, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of cefpodoxime tablets.

        Always consult a physician for medical advice before use.

        Common side effects may include fever, joint pain, nausea, diarrhea, rash, headache, dizziness, feeling weak, tinnitus, vomiting, and itching.

        More severe side effects may include: inflammation of the large intestine, severe allergic skin reactions, blood cell disturbances, wheezing and difficulty breathing.

        Indications and Usage

        This antibiotic treats a host of bacterial infections like acute bronchitis, pneumonia, otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, urinary tract infections, kidney infections (pyelonephritis), gonorrhea and flare-ups of chronic bronchitis.

        It also treats skin or soft tissue infections like boils, abscesses, cellulitis, folliculitis and infected wounds or ulcers.

        Administration and Dosage

        Use of cefpodoxime tablets during pregnancy or breastfeeding does not appear to be harmful. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional before taking cefpodoxime.

        Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed the advisable dosage.

        The usual dose for adults is 200mg taken twice per day for 14 days. The usual dose for children is 50-100mg taken twice per day for 14 days depending on age or body weight.

        The maximum dosage for adults or children is 400mg taken twice a day.

        Interactions

        Possible interactions with cefpodoxime tablets include antacid, antiviral drugs, water pills, stomach acid reducers, pain medications, chemotherapy or medicine for organ transplant rejection, bowel disorder drugs, and osteoporosis medications.

        Cefpodoxime tablets should not be taken with alcohol. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with cefpodoxime tablets.

        Overdose

        Taking more medicines may cause poisoning and serious side effects. Please call the emergency department if you suspect cefpodoxime tablets overdose.

        Precautions

        Do NOT take cefpodoxime if you

        • You are allergic to cephalosporin-type antibiotics;
        • You are younger than 15 days old;
        • You have phenylketonuria;
        • You have galactose intolerance;
        • You have taken indigestion remedies;
        • You have severe kidney damage.
