Bisacodyl Tablets are a laxative drug used to relieve chronic or functional constipation. This medication is also used to manage neurogenic bowel dysfunction. Bisacodyl may also be used as part of bowel preparation before surgery, treatment, or medical examinations, such as colonoscopy.
Bisacodyl is a colonic laxative stimulant. It works directly on the colon to produce a bowel movement by stimulating enteric nerves to cause colonic mass movements.

Uses
What is Bisacodyl used for?
It's used to relieve constipation and manage neurogenic bowel dysfunction. It's also used as bowel preparation before some medical examinations, like a colonoscopy.
How should Bisacodyl Tablets be used?
This medication has been manufactured to be taken orally. Bisacodyl Tablets should be taken at least an hour after having milk or antacids.
What dose should be taken?
For constipation, the usual dose is 5-15mg, taken once per day. The maximum dosage is 30mg/day. The tablet should not be crushed or chewed.
For bowel prep, the usual dose is 5-10mg taken once. It is typically given about 6 hours before polyethylene glycol-containing bowel prep solution.
The dosage is based on medical condition, response to the treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Bisacodyl Tablets.
