Azelastine HCL belongs to a class of drugs known as antihistamines. It works by blocking certain natural substances called histamines that are responsible for nasal symptoms.
This medication is used to relieve nasal symptoms such as runny/itchy/stuffy nose, sneezing, and post-nasal drip caused by allergies or other conditions.

Indications and Usage
Azelastine HCL nasal spray is used to relieve seasonal allergy symptoms of the nose such as stuffy/runny nose, itching, sneezing, and post-nasal drip. Azelastine HCL nasal spray is for nasal use only.
Precautions
Do not take azelastine HCL nasal spray if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients;
- You have an adrenal insufficiency.
It is unknown if azelastine HCL is excreted in breast milk. Consult your doctor or health care professional before inhaling the nasal spray in pregnant or nursing mothers.
Administration and Dosage
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. The recommended dose to treat seasonal/perennial allergic rhinitis is 1-2 spray in each nostril twice daily (8-10 hourly).
Interactions
Consult with your doctor about medications you are taking or existing medical conditions you have before your treatment with azelastine HCL nasal spray.
This drug may interact with alprazolam, lorazepam, zolpidem, carisoprodol, cyclobenzaprine or with other antihistamines such as cetirizine and diphenhydramine.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include drowsiness or sleepiness. These symptoms have to be reported to the medical health professional.
