Atorvastatin improves cholesterol level in people with different kinds of cholesterol problems.
It significantly decreases the risk of heart attack, stroke and heart diseases.
Atorvastatin can be used together with diet, weight loss, and exercise.
Atorvastatin can also be used with bile acid resins and other cholesterol-lowering medications to get perfect drug-synergism.
Administration and Dosage
Use of atorvastatin tablets during pregnancy or breastfeeding appears to be harmful.
Consult your doctor or healthcare professional before taking atorvastatin.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed the advisable dosage.
The usual dose for adults is 10-20mg taken once per day. The typical maintenance dosage is 10 – 80mg taken once per day.
The usual dose for children aged 10-17 years is 10mg taken once per day depending on age and body weight.
It is not for children younger than 10 years.
Possible interactions with atorvastatin tablets include antibiotics, antifungals, other cholesterol-lowering agents, rifampin, HIV drugs, digoxin, birth control pills, colchicines, and cyclosporine.
Atorvastatin tablets should not be taken with alcohol. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with atorvastatin tablets.
Taking more medicines may cause poisoning and severe side effects.
Please call the emergency department if you suspect atorvastatin overdose.
Do NOT take atorvastatin if you are
- Hypersensitive to atorvastatin active ingredients;
- Have an active liver disease or unexplained transaminase elevation;
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding;
- You are diabetic;
- You have serious muscle problems;
- You are below 10 years old.
