Always consult a veterinary physician or animal care specialist before using iron dextran + vitamin B12.
If the condition does not improve or becomes worse, then call a veterinary physician or animal care specialist.
Refer to an animal care specialist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise, and complete the full treatment, as stopping early can result in a recurrence or a worsening of the problem. Usual dosage is as follows:
For intramuscular or subcutaneous administration:
Livestock: 2-4mg/1kg of body weight.
Calves: 2-4ml subcutaneous, in the first week after birth.
Piglets: 1ml intramuscular, 3 days after birth.
Consult with an animal care specialist about any other medications that are being taken by the animal, and their medical history, before their treatment with iron dextran + vitamin B12 injection.
