Indications and Usage
It is indicated to treat bacterial infections which cannot be treated with other potent antibiotics. It is a preferred antibiotic in the treatment of throat, ear, mouth and urinary tract infections.
Levofloxacin is also used to treat bacterial infections that cause bronchitis or pneumonia, and to treat people who have been exposed to anthrax or plague.
Do not take levofloxacin HCL tablets if:
- You are allergic to quinolone antibiotics or if you have any other allergies;
- You have a medical history of diabetes, joint and tendon problems, kidney and nerve problems;
- You have history of seizure disorder and certain muscle problems.
There is little evidence with regards to the use of levofloxacin HCL tablets during pregnancy or breast feeding, so consult your doctor or health care professional before taking levofloxacin HCL tablets.
Driving or operating machinery is okay as long as vision is clear since the tablets may cause temporarily blurred vision.
Administration and Dosage
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Levofloxacin HCL tablets interact with strontium. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with levofloxacin HCL tablets.
Symptoms of overdose include trouble breathing and passing out. Other symptoms such as severe dizziness may occur. These symptoms have to be reported to the medical health professional. Seek medical help urgently.
