Metamizole sodium it is a non-opioid pain reliever and fever reducer that belongs to a class of medications called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs. Its mechanism of action consists of the inhibition of central cyclooxygenase-3 (cox3) and on the activation of cannabinoid and opioidergic system.

Analgin (metamizole sodium) is an analgesic used for treat pains of different origins and intensity like a toothache, headache, arthralgia, neuralgia, myalgia, milder visceral pains, dysmenorrhea, acute or severe postoperative pain and.It is also effective as an antipyretic since it helps lower the body temperature.

Do NOT use analgin if there is one of these conditions:

  • Deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
  • Allergy to metamizole or to other pyrazolones;
  • Severe hepatic insufficiency;
  • Severe renal insufficiency;
  • Acute intermittent porphyria;
  • Pregnancy;
  • Age less than 18 years old;
  • Bronchial asthma;
  • Chronic urticaria.

If there is a condition of low blood pressure, analgin must be used with extra care because it can cause hypotension. Avoid the use of analgin during pregnancy and lactation d because there are not enough studies on its safety.

Consult your doctor or health care professional before using analgin. Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Dosage and duration of treatment must be determined according to the severity of the pain syndrome. The usual dose in adults is 250-500mg (1/2 -1 tablet) 2 or 3 times daily.

Maximal 24-hour dose is 3g. For children over 15 years the usual dose is 250 mg, 2-3 times daily.

Analgin should not be administered longer than 3 days or in higher doses without consulting the attending physician.

Warnings:

Agranulocytosis induced by metamizole is an accident of immuno-allergic origin lasting for at least one week. These reactions are very rare, may be severe and life threatening, and could be fatal. They are not dose dependent and may occur at any time during treatment.
