Product Information

General Information:
AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Ferrous Sulfate + Folic Acid tablets.

Ferrous sulfate + folic acid tablets are the first line treatment in iron deficiency anemia which is very common among the women adolescence and in childbearing age.

Ferrous sulfate is a type of iron which is easily absorbed in the body. Iron is majorly absorbed from the food we eat but due to certain inhibitors such as caffeine and calcium its uptake in the body is hindered. Body functions with iron by becoming a part of hemoglobin and myoglobin. Hemoglobin carries oxygen through your blood to tissues and organs. Myoglobin helps your muscle cells store oxygen.

Folic acid helps body to produce and maintain new cells, and also helps prevent changes to DNA that may lead to cancer.

Indications and Usage

Ferrous sulfate and folic acid tablets are used to treat iron deficiency anemia (a lack of red blood cells caused by having too little iron in the body). Ferrous sulfate is a type of iron and is an essential body mineral. It works by replacing iron in your body if your body does not produce enough on its own.

Ferrous sulfate and folic acid tablets are contraindicated in patients who are taking calcium tablets as it inhibit the absorption of iron in the blood.

Do NOT use ferrous sulfate and folic acid tablet if you have:

  • Iron overload syndrome;
  • Hemolytic anemia (a lack of red blood cells);
  • Porphyria (a genetic enzyme disorder that causes symptoms affecting the skin or nervous system);
  • Thalassemia (a genetic disorder of red blood cells);
  • If you receive regular blood transfusions.

There is little evidence with regards to the use of ferrous sulfate and folic acid during pregnancy or breast feeding, so consult your doctor or health care professional before this medication.

It is not known whether ferrous sulfate and folic acid passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before taking this medication or before breast-feeding.

Driving or operating machinery should be avoided, as it does may cause dizziness, drowsiness, hypotension, or headache.

Administration and Dosage

Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. Usual dose for adults is: 500mg (in severe anemic condition). Administration of the medication should be oral on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Avoid taking antacids or antibiotics within 2 hours before or after taking ferrous sulfate.
