AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Sulfadimidine tablets.

Sulfadimidine Tablets are an antibacterial sulfa drug used in human and veterinary medicine. Sulfadimidine can be used to treat inflammatory bowel disease, vaginitis, and superficial ocular infections.

It is effective against chlamydia, toxoplasma, and coccidia. Sulfadimidine improves the patient’s condition by blocking the conversion of the p-aminobenzoic acid to the co-enzyme dihydrofolic acid.

Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of sulphadimidine. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to headaches, diarrhea and metallic taste in your mouth.

Seek medical attention if the following develop:

  • Headache;
  • Allergic reactions;
  • Loss of appetite;
  • Nausea or vomiting;
  • Heartburn;
  • Constipation;
  • Vomiting.

Do NOT use sulphadimidine if:

  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients in the tablet.

There is little evidence with regards to the use of sulfadimidine during pregnancy or breast feeding, and so consult your doctor or health care professional before taking sulfadimidine.
Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.

Usual dose for adults is:
If tonsillitis: 1g twice a day for a week
If sinusitis: 1g per day for a duration of 1-1.5 week
If pneumonia and wound infections: 5g per day for a duration of 1-1.5 week
Usual does for children is:
If tonsillitis and for children older than 3 years old: 0.05-0.075g per kg of body weight
If Sinusitis: 0.1-0.15g per kg of body weight per day
If pneumonia and wound infections: 0.1g per kg of body weight per day

Medicine and salt interactions may increase or decrease the activity of sulfadimidine. It may interact with the following medicines:

  • Methotrexate;
  • Pralatrexate.

Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with sulfadimidine.
