Product Information

General Information:
AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Cephalexin powder for Injections.

Cephalexin is a beta-lactam antibiotic classified as a first-generation cephalosporins. It works similarly to other agents within this class, such as intravenous cefazolin, but can be taken orally. Cephalexin powder for injections treats a number of bacterial infections. It kills gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria by disrupting the growth of the bacterial cell wall.

Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of cephalexin powder for injections. Always consult a doctor or healthcare professional for medical advice before use.

Common side effects include diarrhea, dizziness, feeling tired, headache, joint pain, and vaginal itching or discharge. Seek medical attention if any adverse effects occur.

For a comprehensive list of all possible effects, consult your doctor. If any symptom persists or gets worse, or you notice any other symptom not listed, call your doctor immediately.

Additional Information

Always consult a medical doctor or patient care specialist before using cephalexin powder for injections.

Indications and Usage

Cephalexin can treat certain bacterial infections, including those of the middle ear, bone and joint, skin, and urinary tract. It may also be used to treat certain types of pneumonia and strep throat, and to prevent bacterial endocarditis.

Cephalexin is not effective against infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Enterococcus, or Pseudomonas. Like other antibiotics, cephalexin cannot treat viral infections such as the flu, common cold, or acute bronchitis. Cephalexin can be used by those who have mild or moderate allergies to penicillin. However, it is not recommended for those with severe penicillin allergies.

Contraindications

Cephalexin is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity towards cephalosporins.

Precautions

Do not take cephalexin if:

  • You are allergic to cephalexin or other containing ingredients;
  • You have diabetes or impaired renal function;
  • You are suffering from hepatic impairment or malnutrition.

There is little evidence surrounding the use of cephalexin during pregnancy or breast feeding, so consult your doctor or healthcare professional before using cephalexin.

Driving or operating machinery is safe while using cephalexin as it does not cause dizziness or induce sleep.

Administration and Dosage

Refer to your doctor or health care professional on the guidelines of administration and dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. The maximum dose of an adult ranges from 1 to 4g daily in divided doses.

Interactions

Cephalexin can have many possible interactions with other drugs, such as metformin and probenecid.

Consult your doctor about medications you are taking or existing medical conditions you have before you begin treatment with cephalexin.

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose include trouble breathing and passing out. Other symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, diarrhea, and hematuria. These symptoms should be reported to a medical professional. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical help immediately.

Adverse Reactions

Some reported adverse reactions include fever, colitis, aplastic anemia, hemorrhage, renal dysfunction, and toxic nephropathy. Please consult a healthcare professional or pharmacist before administration of cephalexin powder for injections.
